Multi-family home destroyed after house fire in Holyoke


NICK: A FOLLOW UP TONIGHT — WE NOW KNOW THE CAUSE OF A FIRE IN HOLYOKE THAT LEFT 6 PEOPLE WITHOUT A PLACE TO CALL HOME. HOLYOKE FIRE CAPTAIN, KEVIN CAVAGNAC TOLD 22NEWS — IMPROPERLY EXTINGUISHED SMOKING MATERIALS ON THE FRONT PORCH CAUSED THE FIRE AT 68 FAIRFIELD AVE SATURDAY NIGHT. EVERYONE WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT OUT SAFELY, INCLUDING AN INFANT — AND NO ONE WAS HURT. THE FIRE STARTED AROUND 6 O’ CLOCK SATURDAY EVENING AND TOOK HOURS TO PUT IT OUT. THE HOUSE COLLAPSED DUE TO THE INTENSITY OF THE FLAMES.
