Upcycle! 10 Creative Home Decor Ideas and other Recycling Hacks

It looks like Emily got surprised by some heavy rain. Well as long as there’s no wind she should be fine. Oops I spoke too soon and it’s pretty strong too… Her umbrella is completely destroyed and neither it or the newspaper is going to keep her dry. Oh wow, I don’t think you can get any wetter after this one. Finally you’re back! I guess there’s no use for that umbrella
anymore. Darn it, even the keys are giving you a hard time. This can’t get any worse can it? This is definitely not your day, sister. Poor flowers… Once the rain cleared out, Jacob, comes back home to find the damaged umbrella and is still okay looking flowers. it doesn’t take a genius to figure out what happened here. Poor Emily, she got overwhelmed by the dark cloud that just passed by. It would be a shame to throw all of this away. Lucky for us, Jacob is crafty enough to combine all these rundown items. Let’s start with the umbrella: sometimes all that’s needed are some minor fixes like putting the hooks back into place. Set it aside for now. Meanwhile we’ll need to empty out a sturdy plastic bag we’re going to use it as a container for our flowers. Let’s pour some water inside and tie a thread around it in order to keep those flowers fresh. Go ahead and stuff it inside with some
additional packs of flowers to fill the rest of the umbrella. And for the finishing touch – tie it all up with a ribbon. Make sure it’s long enough. That’s it! Use the handle of the umbrella to hang the bouquet back on the front door. Once the weather clears up, Jacob surprises Emily was a delightful drawer decoration. Nicely done, Jacob! Anna is a complete bookworm. Unfortunately it seems as though Anna’s bookshelf can’t handle any more books. She obviously has too many books and some of them need to be removed. For example this look is a total waste of
time and these two are simply outdated. All of them deserve to be reused for a more useful purpose. Let’s grab several of these useless
books and use some hot glue to build a book tower. Purposely stack them in a slightly rotated fashion while still keeping the overall structure centered. Add as many books as you’d like I find 15 is usually a good number. Open the top book and using a razor cut
out a square shape through some of the pages. Paint the whole shelf white. There we go! Anna managed to reuse her unwanted books and created an eye-catching nightstand. Which sets the mood perfectly for a bookworm reading session. Not only could it be used as a coffee stand, but it can also double as a secret place to store midnight snacks. Now, now – every bookworm deserves a bit of sugar once in a while. Anna is about to leave the house. As for usual her nephew has left Lego scattered everywhere. Well as long as she doesn’t step on them barefoot – we should be okay! Wait a minute! Looks like Anna can’t find your keys. I really hate how this always happens whenever I’m on the way out! As if this today wasn’t going to be stressful enough… How did they even manage to get under there? Hmm… keys and legos… It looks like Anna has a way to combine both of these items. Don’t worry we’ll just need a couple of pieces. Attached to Lego tabs together to create the perfect heart-shaped keychain. This big flat legal piece will make a great base for a funky door sign. We’ll use the rectangular pieces to create some Lego font. Simply attach the Lego
keychain to your board. Now let’s see it all come together. Perfect it looks fun on the wall and I won’t lose her keys anymore with his fun new and creative keychain holder. Emily has sped up with Jacob’s messy lifestyle she has decided to take a stand and is about to confront him over the phone. Meanwhile, Jacob is on the way back from work and has no idea what is about to happen. – Well hello darling!
– Don’t darling me look at this mess! Yeah, Jacob, not the call you were expecting right? Hopefully all of this is going to be cleaned up by the end of the day. Jacob is in a dilemma: how is he going to
organize all that clutter? Well as they say one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. Let’s paint the old wooden ladder. Paint the entire ladder in white. Don’t forget the other side! Next we’re going to attach self brackets to the top and bottom ladder rungs. Make sure it’s secured by screwing them in far enough. Depending on the ladder this might be a tricky part. Awesome, that’s it!
Jacob you need to tidy this area up first. Okay, don’t mind me. ¯_(ツ)_/¯ Mark the right height for the shelves on the wall safety first. Screw the shelf in. A level will probably
help give better results. Good job, Jacob, you’re the man of the
house. The high shelf can be used as a box storage or a hanger. After a well-deserved rest, Emily has returned home to a delightful and useful decor surprise. Guys sometimes do get it right. Sleep well! Sarah just finished hosting a great party. Her last two friends are just about to leave her all by herself. Unfortunately every celebration comes with a great responsibility. The lonely after-party cleaning routine can get you down. It’s a shame we need to throw all this junk out. Maybe Sarah can salvage some of these
paper cups and reuse them instead Take a pencil and outline your desired shape on the cup. We are going to make a heart. Next – poke a bunch of holes around the outside using a needle. Focus on the shape and add additional lines or waves around it. With a razor blade cut out a small plus sign on the bottom of the cup. And lastly insert string lights through the holes. Do the same with the rest of the cups. This little project will only take half an hour at most. Sarah managed to reuse her party cups and cozy up her bedroom with this warm light decor. Every single cup has been customized with a different pattern giving it a unique feel. It’s quite cool isn’t it? Jacob found a new hobby for himself as a mini garden enthusiast He’s been taking care of his plants for a couple months now. Sadly, it looks like one of his green babies just died… …and so did his light bulb. Obviously this has made him a bit too
emotional. Jacob, you need to relax. Wait! Don’t throw it out! We might actually be able to combine these two loss items to create something new. Using pliers and a screwdriver we can carefully deconstruct the lightbulb. Broken glass can be dangerous so be cautious and always use safety gloves to protect yourself. Grab a screwdriver to remove the electrical foot. Next, we are going to use our pliers to remove the glass mount. The remaining parts can be emptied out with some thorough shaking. Place the bulb the top of glass or cup for supporting during the next step. Use a funnel to pour some sand inside Take something like a chopstick to even it out. Once again use the funnel to drop a handful of white gravel. A bit of moss for that nature vibe. Lastly place our green baby inside
in order to bring our light bulb to life. Place the light bulb piece on a
driftwood for a lovely beach vibe Perfect! Jacob reused his broken lightbulb to give his cute little plant a home. Jacobs is about to rock out to some vinyl at home. That slight hiss is just so soothing to the air. Unfortunately he dropped his cuff and
damaged one of his final records. Wow, Jacob, classy move. Not sure if it’s playable, buddy. Maybe we
can still put this vinyl to good use!? Yes, it’s definitely damaged. Using a ruler and eraser create a single line on the outer edge of the inner circle. This is where we grab our lighter and light things on fire… Just kidding, be careful though… Melt the line and gently bend the record in a 90 degrees angle. Give it a minute to cool it off and you’re done! Your bent vinyl can now be used as a sofa coaster, which is going to provide you with a solid surface for your daily coffee. No more spills! This funky piece can also be used as a wall shelf to display your
favorite items or book ends. Good job, Jacob, the show must go on! Sarah is playing with their dog in the park outside. Looks like our little guy bit through the tennis ball again, which is a common occurrence for any dog owner. Sarah came up with an idea on how to reuse these destroyed balls: Turn the holes into a single opening by cutting out a line between them. Using super glue attached some ear horn and lake shaped felt cutouts for a custom-made tennis monster. Perfect, we’re done! The ball can be repurposed as a leash hanger or a doggie bag holder Let’s just set this puppy up and get going. Sarah don’t forget those poop bags! Now… who will play with the tennis monsters? :/ Hey recycling pandas, I hope you enjoy
